Grandstream's New UCM PBX Platform
Reading or Listening Time: 7 Minutes.
Based on our award-winning UCM Series of IP PBXs, SoftwareUCM is the newest addition to our line of PBX solutions. Being a software-based solution, it provides a scalable business communication and collaboration platform with comprehensive features and integrations that enable teams to be more productive. SoftwareUCM has the same features and functionality as all our UCM6300 series. In this blog post, we'll discuss some key features unique to SoftwareUCM and answer frequently asked questions about the software.
Multi-Tenant Capabilities
SoftwareUCM can be deployed on virtual machines, physical machines, or cloud platforms. Thanks to multi-tenant support, system integrators, resellers, and ITSPs can divide a single installation of the software between multiple customers, allocating resources flexibly to each independent instance. This includes managing the resources allocated to each instance, such as CPU, memory, and storage, as well as handling software updates, backups, and instance-specific settings.
A system management interface allows SoftwareUCM to manage resources and provide network administrators with a method to monitor and view the platform's current state. The system management interface is accessed and modified through a command line terminal. Once you switch SoftwareUCM from single-tenant to multi-tenant mode, you will see a list of settings, as you can see in the image. To create new SoftwareUCM instances, a network admin selects "Create SoftwareUCM" and then enters the CPU, memory, and storage limits, and chooses the IP assignment method. Once new instances are created, they can be viewed through the same command line terminal process and choosing "List SoftwareUCMs", where the admin portal IP and default username/password can be viewed.
Remote SoftwareUCM Access and Diagnostics
Using Grandstream Device Management System (GDMS) and UCM RemoteConnect, network administrators can remotely access SoftwareUCM, view instance details, and access helpful diagnostic tools. Multiple SoftwareUCM systems can be managed from a single GDMS account, meaning a system integrator can install the platform for various clients and manage all of them from a centralized platform. To access a SoftwareUCM platform in GDMS, a user can navigate through GDMS Unified Communications, then UCMRC, and select On-Premise PBX. A list of UCMs synced to the GDMS account through UCM RemoteConnect will populate in a list format that can be individually remotely accessed. The SoftwareUCM's username and password are needed for this access.
Through GDMS and UCM RemoteConnect, essential diagnostics tools can be run to monitor and troubleshoot a SoftwareUCM instance. Keep in mind that only one SoftwareUCM platform can have the tool run on it at a time. The GDMS diagnostics tool will check the following:
- UCM RemoteConnect Connection: This report checks every step of the UCM's connection to UCM RemoteConnect, including the SIP channel, web socket channel, penetration service TURN, penetration service STUN, GDMS STUN, GDMS Link, Cloud IM, and provides a bandwidth test.
- Ping/Traceroute: Using this feature, users can remotely test network connectivity related to the SoftwareUCM instance.
- Syslog: Logs can be generated and analyzed using the Syslog report, which makes identifying system failures, misconfiguration, and call routing issues easier.
- Capture Trace: With Capture Trace, users can remotely monitor and capture network traffic between endpoints and the IP PBX, essential for troubleshooting communication issues and ensuring the reliable operation of IP telephony services.
- Network Diagnostics: This feature provides a detailed list of active internet connections, including listening services, established connections on SoftwareUCM, and additional information about the system’s network interfaces and routing tables.
- System Status: The System Status diagnostic provides insights into the storage, CPU, and memory usage of SoftwareUCM.
SoftwareUCM Integrations
SoftwareUCM, with its open API interfaces, can easily integrate with third-party business platforms. This allows it to work seamlessly with popular customer service platforms, CRM solutions, hotel management systems, etc. SoftwareUCM also provides LiveChat, a built-in real-time chat platform, offering a ready-to-use customer service solution. The UCM platform also supports AMI (Asterisk Management Interface) with restricted access; this allows a client program to connect to an Asterisk instance commands or read events over a TCP/IP stream.
