Riphah International University is one of the best private sector universities in Pakistan that has been chartered by the Federal Government in 2002. Riphah has gained international recognition for its contributions to Pakistan’s educational sector and has secured a position among the top 4 institutions in the country according to the prestigious Times Higher Education rankings. The Riphah International University encompasses 9 campuses, serving over 27,000 enrolled students across.
The Need
With Riphah International University being a well-known University in Islamabad, their previous network solution could not handle the amount of devices connected. People were experiencing connectivity issues, lack of coverage across the campus, and network congestion, which was causing frustration to the students and staff. The University began to search for a solution that could provide scalability at an enterprise grade level, allowing the university to expand its Wi-Fi network to accommodate its student growth. Riphah International University needed to meet the following network requirements to upgrade its current Wi-Fi solution:
- Seamless and reliable Wi-Fi connection was required throughout the entire campus to support many concurrent users.
- The ability to modernize the communication infrastructure by transitioning from traditional telephony systems to an advanced VoIP-based solution. The goal involved improving communication efficiency, enhancing collaboration, and staying up-to-date with technological advancements.
- With multiple access points deployed across a large campus, centralized management was a requirement to help with network administration and troubleshooting.
- One of the primary goals was to reduce communication costs, by leveraging VoIP technology and eliminating the need for expensive proprietary hardware, maintenance cost, and long-distance calling charges.
The Solution
Riphah University’s previous solution used basic routers such as D-Link routers, Tenda routers, and Deco series routers that lacked a centralized controller. They sought out a new Wi-Fi brand and compared several brands to find Grandstream, which met their technical and financial needs. After searching for a robust solution and comparing, against TP-Link and Ubiqiuiti, Riphah University chose Grandstreams solutions. Having used Grandstreams PBX and analog phones before, the University did not hesitate to try out the networking solutions as they knew their hardware was reliable and easy to deploy. Grandstream offered enhanced features, cost savings, improved scalability, and integration capabilities, depending on their specific needs and requirements. They appreciated the free GWN Cloud Controller’s centralized management system and user-friendly interface. By leveraging this array of Grandstream solutions, the University was able to establish a robust Wi-Fi network infrastructure capable of supporting the demands of their IP telephony system while catering to the connectivity needs of the user across the entire campus.

Grandstream's access points offer a seamless installation and connection with advanced security features to ensure data protection across all connected devices. Since there were a large number of wireless solutions in place the school chose to deploy the GRP2602W (2-Line Essential IP Phone) and WP822 (Cordless Wi-Fi IP Phone) for their IP phone needs. Additionally, the advanced roaming capabilities of Grandstream access points contribute to a more efficient and productive communication experience. All of Grandstreams AP’ are equipped with advanced MU-MIMO technology, ensuring efficient connectivity for multiple users simultaneously.
Since, all of the access points have a centralized manager, the IT team has cut a significant amount of time managing the access points installed in the classrooms and offices across the nine campuses. The GWN Cloud Controller allows for easy management of multiple access points and network configurations, ensuring seamless connectivity for all users. This setup enhances security measures and provides a user-friendly experience for both guests and employees. Grandstream access points offered excellent value for money, providing enterprise-level features at competitive prices.
The Result
Grandstream's solution has greatly improved communication and connectivity at Riphah International University, making it a more efficient and productive environment for both employees and students. The ease of setup and maintenance, along with the fast network speeds provided by the Wi-Fi solution, have attracted interest from other Universities looking to enhance their own communication systems.
Riphah International University has been thrilled with the installation of the GWN7630, GWN7660, GWN7624, and GWN7660LR access points. The indoor access points, the GWN7660 and GWN7630, were installed in the large open areas such as the conference room and corridors. The in-wall access points, the GWN7624, were installed in the university classrooms. Providing the students and employees with a strong and reliable internet connection. Additionally, the outdoor long range access points, the GWN7660LR, were installed to cover the parking lot and outdoor spaces extending the coverage range to people walking across campus.
With the installation of Grandstream’s portable Wi-Fi cordless IP Phone, the WP822, all employees now have the ability to report to their manager or contact them from anywhere on the Riphah International University campus. All in all, the university’s new UC and networking solution now has the ability to provide clients and employees with reliable network connections throughout the campus. Students and employees are able to work online and communicate online while staying at the University. Grandstream’s solutions make it easy to install and maintain control of the access points using the remote cloud management software.
