GWN7072, the Wi-Fi 7 router that turns 10-gig fiber into a business for integrators and ISPs

Escrito por David Alonso | octubre 29, 2026

Grandstream's first Wi-Fi 7 router combines a 10G WAN, 2.5 GbE ports, 16-node mesh and enterprise-grade security in a single device with free cloud management.

Multi-gigabit fiber plans are now a reality across Latin America, yet in many installations the subscribed speed dies at the router. A 1G WAN port, a congested Wi-Fi network, or a LAN without multi-gig turns 2, 5, or 10 Gbps into a broken promise. The GWN7072 was built to close that gap.

Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with up to 11 Gbps

The GWN7072 operates on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz using the 802.11be standard. It delivers up to 5,765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4,320 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, for up to 11 Gbps of aggregate Wi-Fi speed.

320 MHz channels on 6 GHz, together with 4K-QAM, MLO, MRU and preamble puncturing, cut latency and keep performance steady even under interference. Users feel it in 4K and 8K streaming, competitive gaming, video conferencing and across the 512 concurrent Wi-Fi clients it supports.

No bottlenecks between the fiber and the user

The 10 GbE combo WAN port accepts RJ45 or SFP+, so the same device fits an ONT with a copper output or a direct fiber link with modules such as the F-SM1310-10KM-10G. It is joined by one 2.5 GbE WAN/LAN port and three 2.5 GbE LAN ports for NAS, workstations, consoles, or multi-gig switches.

With 10 Gbps of NAT throughput and 64K sessions, the router sustains the full plan speed. The USB 3.0 port adds a third connectivity path through cellular modems as WAN, plus network printing and shared storage.

One device, two operating modes

Enterprise mode unlocks professional features and enables communication with other GWN devices via the local web UI. Home mode simplifies the interface and pairs with the Grandstream Home app to monitor the network 24/7, apply parental controls, and update devices with one tap.

For integrators, that means a single SKU for two markets: premium residential customers and small businesses.

Enterprise-grade security and VPN

The GWN7072 supports up to 50 VPN tunnels with WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPSec, L2TP, PPTP and SSL VPN, with 1.2 Gbps of IPSec throughput. It integrates a firewall with DoS defense, DPI-based URL and application filtering, parental control for 32 clients, a captive portal and digitally signed secure boot.

Smart QoS provides 8 priority queues, application QoS and daily, weekly and monthly traffic statistics.

Integration scenarios for integrators and ISPs

Scenario 1. ISP with multi-gig FTTH and Triple Play. OLT → ONT → GWN7072 10G WAN (RJ45 or SFP+) → Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5G LAN for the subscriber. The ISP provisions the device via TR-069, separates IPTV and VoIP with WAN VLANs, and monitors its entire installed base in GDMS Networking with no license fees. It is a direct way to differentiate 2.5, 5 and 10 Gbps plans with a router that actually delivers that speed.

Scenario 2. SMB with dual WAN and business continuity. 10G fiber on the combo WAN, a second provider on the 2.5G WAN/LAN port and a USB cellular modem as backup. Failover and load-balancing policies keep the UCM IP PBX, IP phones and point of sale running. The 2.5G LAN ports connect a GWN switch, the NAS and critical workstations, with QoS prioritizing voice and video calls.

Scenario 3. Full coverage with up to 16 mesh nodes. The GWN7072 acts as the main router and expands with GWN7660EM access points or mesh-capable GWN routers, wired or wireless. Each router covers up to 175 m² and roaming is seamless between nodes. Ideal for large homes, clinics, coworking spaces and multi-floor offices.

Scenario 4. Multi-site network with VPN and centralized management. One GWN7072 at headquarters and others at branches or home offices, linked through site-to-site WireGuard or IPSec. Remote staff connect as VPN clients. The integrator manages every site from GDMS Networking or GWN Manager, with monitoring, backups and firmware updates.

Scenario 5. Hospitality and retail with guest Wi-Fi. A guest SSID with a captive portal (vouchers, social login or password), separated by VLAN from the operational network that carries payment terminals, cameras and voice. Up to 16 SSIDs let each service run under its own policy.

Business opportunities for the channel

  • ISPs: a premium router for multi-gig plans, with remote provisioning and fewer truck rolls.
  • Integrators: cross-selling GWN switches, access points, UCM and IP phones in the same project.
  • Managed service providers: recurring revenue on GDMS, with no per-device licenses.
  • Suggested verticals: premium residential, home offices, retail and restaurants, clinics and small hospitals, professional services and coworking.

Conclusion

The GWN7072 brings Wi-Fi 7 and 10G connectivity to a compact desktop or wall-mount form factor, with the security and management that professional projects demand. For the channel, it is the missing piece to sell multi-gig fiber end to end.
