Tharawat Hotel is a five-star hotel located in the central area of Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and part of the landmark Worth Hospitality Complex. Designed to serve Hajj and Umrah pilgrims as well as international business and leisure travelers, the hotel offers premium accommodations supported by modern technology infrastructure. As part of the development of the new property, Tharwat Hotel required a scalable and reliable unified communications solution capable of supporting thousands of endpoints while simplifying daily operations.

The Challenge

With an entirely new communications infrastructure being built, Tharawat Hotel needed a UC platform capable of reliably supporting more thousands of endpoints while providing high availability, centralized management, and simple administration.

The hotel also wanted to support wired hotel phones, Wi-Fi phones, and softphones within one ecosystem without recurring licensing fees. Because the ownership group operates additional hotels, cloud management and the ability to easily expand and manage the solution across future properties were also important considerations.

Finally, integration with the hotel's OPERA Property Management System (PMS) was required to support hospitality operations and applicable tourism regulations.

The Solution

Working with Saudi Arabian systems integrator Jabal Al Alam (JAA) and distributor ATCOM, Tharawat Hotel evaluated UC solutions from Cisco, Mitel, and Grandstream before selecting Grandstream.

The complete deployment includes 8 UCM6308 IP PBXs, 1,512 GHP621 hotel IP phones, 1,870 GHP611 hotel IP phones, and 58 GHP631 hotel phones, creating a comprehensive communications environment with more than 3,400 Grandstream endpoints that covers all guest rooms and staff areas. Tharawat Hotel's staff also uses Grandstream's mobile app, Wave, allowing them to react quickly from anywhere in the hotel on mobile devices.

The UCM6300 Series provides the centralized foundation for the solution, delivering high availability, centralized administration, and cloud-based management. Grandstream's Zero Config provisioning simplifies the deployment and management of thousands of endpoints, while support for Wi-Fi phones and softphones gives hotel employees mobility throughout the property. The UCM platform was also integrated with OPERA PMS to support hotel-specific communications and operational requirements.

Why Grandstream?

Grandstream was selected for its combination of scalability, flexibility, centralized management, and cost-effectiveness. Its license-free approach was particularly valuable for a deployment involving thousands of endpoints, eliminating recurring per-user licensing costs while allowing the system to scale as needed.

Tharawat Hotel also benefited from having wired phones, wireless devices, softphones, UC infrastructure, and management capabilities available within one integrated ecosystem. High availability, cloud management, OPERA PMS integration, and the ability to potentially incorporate Grandstream facility access solutions in the future provided additional advantages.

The Results

With approximately half of the planned deployment completed, the Grandstream solution has delivered reliable performance and call quality while proving easy for the hotel's IT team to manage and troubleshoot.

The simplicity of the solution has enabled Tharawat Hotel to manage the phone system with a single internal IT resource rather than contracting with a costly managed service provider. The Wave app allows service teams to remain connected throughout the property without relying on personal mobile phones or separate cellular subscriptions.

Grandstream's Zero Config provisioning has further simplified the configuration and management of the hotel's large number of endpoints, while integration with OPERA PMS helps streamline hotel operations and support applicable tourism requirements.

Together, these capabilities provide Tharawat Hotel with a scalable, cost-effective communications platform designed to support efficient operations and premium guest services.
